Fair warning. I built InnerZero. I use Cursor sometimes. I'll try to be fair to both.

What is Cursor?

Cursor is a VS Code fork with frontier AI models wired deeply into the editor. You write code. The AI suggests completions, edits multi-file projects, and explains existing code. Under the hood it uses Claude, GPT, and other cloud models, routed through Cursor's own infrastructure with their own prompt engineering on top.

Cursor's big advantages are (1) the UX is excellent, (2) the model access is already wired up, and (3) the team has genuinely good product taste. The tradeoff is that Cursor requires the cloud. Your code, selections, and context get sent to Cursor's servers to reach the underlying models. They offer a "privacy mode" that doesn't retain your prompts for training, but the code still has to leave your machine to get a response. For many developers that's fine. For some, it isn't.

What is InnerZero?

Can I use both together?

Yes, and a lot of people probably should. They solve different problems. Cursor lives in your editor and handles AI-assisted code writing. InnerZero lives next to your editor and handles the broader workflow: research, voice, document handling, and coding agent tasks for sensitive projects.

Practical setup:

  • Cursor in your greenfield repo where you want frontier-model help
  • InnerZero running in the background for voice, memory, research

Does InnerZero have inline editor completions like Cursor?

No. InnerZero's coding agent is task-based, not inline-completion based. You ask it to do a unit of work and it produces changes. If you want tab-to-complete suggestions as you type, Cursor or GitHub Copilot are the right tools for that workflow. They're solving a different problem.

Can Cursor run offline?

No. Cursor requires an internet connection to reach the underlying models and Cursor's own services. Even with BYO keys, the routing still goes through Cursor infrastructure. For genuinely offline AI coding assistance, you need a tool built for local execution.

Which one is better for Python, JavaScript, or Rust specifically?

Both handle mainstream languages well because both can reach the same frontier cloud models when you want that.
